Some writers (Feldman, for example) claim that creativity is a continuum that starts from everyday creativity (something we all experience, using language or learning a new skill) and arrives at universal creativity (that which produces results that are valuable for everyone). However, there are no heirarchies among the fields of application, for when any creative act is developed to its full potential, even if it starts from a detail, can open up infinite horizons.
So, this week we’ll be talking about details: cutting a sheet of paper or designing a business card... Redesigning something as banal as an electrical outlet, or considering an umbrella from a new point of view. Or inventing a forest, as Yuken Teruya does, from the cardboard core of a roll of toilet paper. The point is, even editing a text properly, or an apparently passive activity such as gazing at clouds are fundamentally creative acts if we perform them creatively.
