Evolution, metamorphosis, the desire for change

Maybe it’s a coincidence. Or maybe an expression of a desire. Or perhaps it’s connected somehow to the elections. Whatever the reason, for the past few days, I seem to keep stumbling across videos about evolution (in the sense of genetic change in humans and our fellow living creatures) and metamorphosis (in the sense of the morphological transformation of single individuals). So, to give coincidence and desire their due, I’m putting everything into one post – also because the videos, when seen together, offer an interesting range of creative solutions and tones of voice.

Let’s start with evolution. Here it is interpreted by Homer Simpson. Revisited after a pint of Guinness. Painted on a wall.

Moving on to metamorphosis: the same stretch, and the walls of Buenos Aires appear to have generated a strange being in the process of mutation. More classic is the facial morphing of famous Women in Art. Toccafondo’s dance is as impassioned as Evelien Lohbeck’s notebook is surprising. Further links and suggestions on the subject are welcome. One last emotional note: this beautiful yet disquieting video by Tori Amos.
