AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, or the ability of computers to develop ‘mental’ processes similar to those of human beings. A machine is considered ‘intelligent’ if it can pass the Turing test: that is, when its responses to a series of questions are indistinguishable from a human’s. If you’d like to try chatting (in English) with a computer, allow me to introduce you to Alice and Elbot. Inverting the acronym, we get IA, or Information Architecture, which means the structuring of information systems. From Tokyo to Zurich, information architects are working on interactive brands. The IA blog is where you’ll find the extraordinary Web Trend Map 4, which contains everything that’s happening on the web on a single page. If you want to be able to actually read it, download the large version from Flickr. But before leaving the site, check out this comment on the interface of a cheeseburger, or this article on the future of start-ups, which opens with the claim that great brands are built when the market is down.
